These terms govern access to and use of the Tobacco Nexus private database — the searchable database, network view and geographic map accessible after authentication. They do not apply to the public pages of tobacconexus.org, which are published under a CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 licence.
By accessing the database, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, you should not access or use the database.
Access to the database is granted individually, on request, to journalists, researchers, public health professionals and organisations working in the public interest. Access is personal and non-transferable.
You may not share your access credentials with any third party. You may not provide or facilitate access to the database for individuals who have not been individually authorised.
Access may be suspended or revoked at any time, without notice, if these terms are breached or if the original conditions under which access was granted no longer apply.

When citing entries from the database in published work, attribution should follow the format described on the methodology page. The original primary sources cited in each entry should be verified independently before publication.

The database, its structure, original descriptions and editorial content are the property of Alistair Servet. The factual data drawn from public sources — lobbying registers, company filings, official documents — is not subject to copyright, but the selection, organisation and presentation of that data in this database constitutes an original work protected under French intellectual property law and, where applicable, the EU sui generis database right.
Permitted citation and reference does not constitute a licence to reproduce substantial portions of the database.
The database is provided for informational purposes. Entries are based on publicly available sources and are documented to the best of the project's ability, but the database is not exhaustive and some information may be incomplete or outdated.
Tobacco Nexus accepts no liability for decisions made on the basis of database entries. Users are responsible for independently verifying information before relying on it for publication, legal proceedings or other consequential purposes.
Inclusion in the database does not constitute an allegation of wrongdoing. The database documents connections, not intent or culpability. See the methodology page for a full explanation of inclusion criteria.
These terms are governed by French law. Any dispute arising from access to or use of the database shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of France.
These terms were last updated in June 2026. Material changes will be communicated to active users by email where possible.
